Our local games club is organising an Alkemy tournament for 15th May 2010, location, the University of Kent at Canterbury. The basis of the tournament will be the five local players but we are hoping that others may make the effort to attend, as all are welcome. There is no charge for the tournament, although that means prizes are unlikely to be spectacular.
There will be a minimum of three rounds, but discusions are still underway as to actual army size.
If anyone is interested or requires more information, please feel free to ccontact me or post here. Cheers Paul

Hi Grendhal
My name is Gavin and I run Tor Gaming.
Can you please email me (email address in my profile) about this. I can help you out with this in some ways and should be able to get a little prize support for you.
Cheers Gavin.

Can you post a little more detail? Force size, etc?
I might be able to attend, though the distance is a killer.

I think force sizes are still in discussion.

Force size is under discussion. We are going to do some playtest games on our club nights to see what size consistently gives us a game finished in around 75 minutes. Thus allowing us three rounds and a little comfort in the days schedule. I'' let people know asap about this.

OK, we have finalised the arrangements. Force size is a single 200 point list with no substitutions. The tournament will be Swiss format by preference, round robin if not, in either case we hope to get four one hour games for each player. Thus with a start time of 10am we hope to finish by 5pm. There are five local players who 'diety allowing' will be there, hopefully we can get a few visitors as well. All rounds will be scenario driven, the first is the standard Jin post scenario from the rulebook, the others, well I will let them come as a surprise Does anyone need any more details?

200? why not 201 with possibility of 2 characters, as is by large the norm for Alkemy tournaments?

We are happy to go to 201 points to allow two characters if thats what people want ( I can see the logic in it). I was not aware of too many other tournaments in this country to base that decision on. We are also more than happy to have raw beginners play. Tournaments in Canterbury are primarily fun, social, occasions where we get together to play our favourite games. The competition side is generally second place, although by the end of the day that is less so

I went to one of their tournaments having only played one game before! I did awfully, but it was still good fun.

I was not aware of too many other tournaments in this country to base that decision on. sorry, I should have expanded my comment - I realise now it may have come across rudely due to shortness. I don't think there has been many (any?) tournament in the UK. Kraken however revised/clarified tournament format back in the second half of 2008 to allow reasonably sized teams to compete. 201 pts became the norm quickly because it allowed people to play with a starter and a synergetic mix made of the first 2 waves, including wave 2 characters. ... not sure if the reason behind this still holds a lot of value but 201 is still widespread for smaller games due to this, in France and AFAIK the US.

Just an update on prizes, thanks to the generosity of Gavin of Tor Gaming the first prize for this tournament will be an Autumns Children box set. This contains 13 Aurlock figures including a limited edition figure and lithograph. It is a great prize and thanks must go to Gavin for it. So come on people, grab 201pts of your favourite Alkemy force and cruise on down to Canterbury in May for a day of gaming and a chance to win a great prize.

Great prize but I can't compete at 201 points as I'd have to buy too much and then travel.
Hopefully Gav'll drum up some support locally and we can have a go here?

Currently advertised here and on our Kent wargames site (FNFFC) is there anywhere else you can suggest? (please feel free to post it anywhere useful).
As for places, we can take 16 easily and 24 at a pinch.
