Do you actually need glue for the Alkemy models, or can you just clip them together??

you *can* just present them into place. I have never glued mine, apart from possibly one or 2 bits that refused to stay attached to the bodies. That said you wouldn't want to leave unglued after they are painted.

Hmmmm, was thinking of a tourny idea much like the old wizkids formats of 'pay your entry fee, get a box and use that in the tourny' sort of thing.

so, the entry would include the cost of the starter (obviosuly discount  Wink ) then the players clip the models together and away they go.

But if it's not as simple as that then I guess it's a no goer.

Sounds interesting . . I'll assemble mine tomorrow (as I still haven't) and report Smiley

Cool, please do. Be interesting to know how much 'flash' there is on them.

It may be a way to get people into the game too. They can download the rules, read them, turn up, pay their money, get minis, play and off they go.

well, I think it is possible, but maybe not very appealing.

Plus you'd have to work out how to deal with the discrepancy in point value between factions. It's always possible to take a few guys out of the Aurlok and Khaliman starters to balance out vs the other 2, but depending on scenario body count could make the difference between having to chance to win/enjoy the game or hate the game!

Personally I'd be more than skeptical about this type of format. 201 pts is really only a starter plus 1 wave so that's the way to go IMO if you contemplate the 'sealed' format.

The starters not balanced, points wise? Ah, kind of kills it......

I had some demo sheets somewhere... from memory Avalon and Jade are 110pts, Aurlok and Khaliman around the 150 pts. So quite a big difference yes.

Oh dear, that's significant.

Also there's a bit of fash (though easily cleaned) and some are tricky to put together without trimming.  I suspect that you'd be spending a good while doing this before playing.

Nice thought though.

I finished two starters without glue and with minor trimming (knife needed) and it took me about an hour.  I could have been quicker but I was concerned for the thin plastic.  If I had rushed I suspect that I might have damaged something.

yes, I don't think a 'sealed starter' is viable for Alkemy when everything is weighted in. Or appealing as a player to be honest (and coming from me that says a lot).

... the pre-painted for *another* company on the other hand ;-)

I glued mine just in case, but i dont see why you couldnt have a friendly tournement, you could maybe do a few scenarios which would negate a sides advantages in points.

you could extend this slightly to make it work, it sounds a bit rubbish but bear with me on this.

assume you get 20 people to turn up, build enough started to allow 20 x 150pts, then when people turn up, coloured marble out of the bag chooses your army. upon leaving you get a sealed box of that army to take away and build.

you wouldn't necessarily need to paint the models, just base and glue them.

bit of a hassle but it does give you a solution so that you can "sit and play" you could modify this slightly to work for demo teams at shows, have a demo and well sell you the boxset at 10% discount by it from the stand without demo get 5% (adjust figures as necessary)

Problem with that is the investment in 20 lots of 150 points that you are stuck with after the event, that's  . . umm . . around £300 (estimating conservatively).

I had a similar notion in having the box sets all assembled for instant play (without glue I can't see many being put off with that) but the point discrepancy caught me out there.

A way around that would be to have some supplementary Avalon and Jade figures available on the day, but that would still leave the organiser with a load of models.
